Today was my son's first day of fifth grade. Here is a photo I took of him in front of the school when we arrived this morning. He's growing so fast! He had a great day today and is looking forward to a great year.

The light saber cake I baked last weekend (see the previous entry) was for Jon Morgan's actual tenth birthday, on Monday. My mom came over that day and we went out for pizza. Then we returned home for light saber cake and presents. That was the family party. Tomorrow is the kids' party.

In Art Club last week, my son, age 8, was supposed to draw his own version of the Mona Lisa. He and some of the other boys drew her nude.

When I asked him why, he claimed he didn't know how to draw clothes.

I asked my eight-year-old which author, living or dead, he would most like to have lunch with.

He gave me that exasperated, sometimes-grownups-are-really-dumb sigh that every parent knows. And then he responded, "You can't eat lunch with a dead author!"
 

My baby (age 8) has been sick. The little guy woke up Monday morning with abdominal pains and a fever of 103.8F. We brought him to the pediatrician's office first thing in the morning, and she also discovered a throat infection.
